On Saturday, 03.10 shifu Dimitrov read an introductory lecture on Chinese writing and calligraphy, and carried out a series of exercises, continuing the tradition that started earlier this year in the Taiji centre in Lovech. Just like Taijiquan the practice of calligraphy started with the basic techniques, with the writing of the separate basic elements of the hieroglyphs and then the participants continued with the writing of the hieroglyphs: yong – eternity, Zhongguo – China, Dao – Way. The pictogram “óong” is made of all the basic lines – hen, shu, gou, dian, etc. therefore it is usually used as an example for the novices. Under the expert guidance of shifu Dimitrov the participants got acquainted with the different styles of writing of the ideograms – kaishu (regular script), caoshu (cursive script) and xingshu (semi-cursive script). The class continued form the early afternoon until the evening. Aside from the regular members of the association the seminar was also attended by other people interested in calligraphy.

There was a lot of attention from the media in the seminar, which was already announced by Darik Radio. TV Mix reported only the calligraphy class, while TV SKAT visited the second day of the seminar. The correspondent member of BTA for the newspaper “Chernomorski far” interviewed the leaders of the seminar and received calligraphies by shifu Dimitrov of the hieroglyphs Dao and Bulgaria.

Comments by participants in the seminar:
Daniela Teneva: I am quite impressed by the calligraphy seminar. I thought that I was interested in it only from the artist's point of view, however it appeared to be a deep philosophical system that I find difficult to immerse myself into. What I witnessed surpassed my expectations. I found it very interesting and very difficult at the same time. I heard the art of calligraphy is closely related to the art of the sword-fighting and all the while I tried to attain the internal harmony, that I feel during my work with the sword. Also, as a person already burdened by former experience in art, I tried to use my skill with the brush but it turned out that I couldn't quite make it work. For myself I found out how much work is required to even try to write one hieroglyph that can be at least “readable” as shifu Dimitrov said during the seminar. I would very much like to have often seminars like that, once every 3 or 4 months because the internal peace and harmony which enveloped us while we were writing acted like a therapy against the stress and the speed of the every day life. The rest of the participants said that was like a catharsis
Penka Georgieva: Calligraphy The calligraphy class was very interesting for me. Indicative was the fact that I personally find it hard to listen to someone for longer than an hour without losing interest. And frankly said that Saturday I didn't feel how the hours passed by. It was a great proportion between theory and practical exercises. From the participant's point of view I think that the thin line between “Very well!” and “It's not good!” was perfectly kept for every participant during the whole time. I was pleasantly surprised that the hieroglyph “China” was included – I liked it best. In general everything was interesting, useful and learning. It's very hard to feel the specifics of “leave a mark with pressure” and how much more difficult it is to “leave a mark with slight pressure”. I don't think I succeeded this time. But I will keep trying. Just at the end I felt somewhat irritated because I couldn't get one of the hieroglyphs right. But I suppose that falls under the learning part – even the smallest, even a point requires perseverance, patience and concentration. In that sense I'd like to participate in many other calligraphy seminars.
Biomechanics of the movements in Taiji Just one clarification – I have no idea whether my form is getting better or whether I'm getting better at all. For myself I decided to try asking questions and looking for their answers in different places. I had three questions for this seminar: where did the movements start; why my shoulders weren't in the right place, while I practiced the form; how exactly should I do the “single whip”, starting “the clouds”, “the clouds” and again starting “single whip”. I was quite surprised that the first two questions found their answers in a very natural way. Shifu Bagalev had already foresighted them. And there is an article on the third one in the magazine. Adding the fact that I learned more about the movements of the pelvis – I am completely satisfied by this part of the seminar. One more thing makes me happy – that s the attention from the media and the following coverage, including the Internet. This will be very beneficial for out group – for us and for potential new members. Appearance in the media is an idea that I have long supported.
P.S. It never ceases to amaze me the discovery that everything is one – form, contents, movement, rest, calligraphy, thoughts, relations, feelings, teaching, learning and everything else.
